"When our emergency heat was running it would never reach its set temperature. I called Quality Comfort and they scheduled someone to come out the next day. Well, when I called them to ask if anyone was coming they said they had a note that the appointment was cancelled. They apologized and scheduled me for the next day. Josh came and looked at a few things. First, he looked at the outdoor unit and said the defrost board was fried. Then, he looked at our indoor unit and said "I have not seen one of these in 7 years. You are not going to like what I have to tell you". He said I needed a whole new air handler. He worked up a quote for everything and he said that there was no warranty for the defrost board and it would be $400 to replace it. Then he quoted $3500 for a new air handler. After he left I looked up the warranty information for the heat pump and it said I have 5 years for parts. So I got suspicious and had a second opinion. Someone else came out and looked at a few things and messed with the wiring and it was fixed within two hours. He also looked at the defrost board outside and said it looked fine to him. So either the technician from Quality Comfort didn't know what he was looking at or he was trying to stick me with an unnecessary bill and make some money. Its hard to trust some people these days. And I still got charged the service fee for no advice at all."
